One fork of Haïtian spaghetti offers you an explosion of flavors and textures brought by a multitude of ingredients. From the meat (s), the veggies to the spices, it is a delight to your palette and your senses.

If you only had 30 minutes to prepare a meal, what would you cook? Most Haïtians will answer “spaghetti” in a heartbeat! It is quick, easy, tasty and filling. Enjoy the recipe below for a personal taste!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of spaghetti
  • Hotdog
  • Smoked dry herring
  • 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 1 medium Onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 scotch bonnet pepper
  • Goya Adobo seasoning
  • Parsley
  • Thyme
  • Salt
  • Spices ( used my homemade freshly blended spices)

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Directions: In a pot, on medium heat, add water with a pinch of salt, 1 garlic clove and a half teaspoon of oil. Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and let it cook to your liking. Then, drain the spaghetti and pour some cold water on it to prevent from sticking to each other.

In a separate pan, warm up some oil, fry the sliced hotdog, then add the smashed smoked herring, minced garlic, spices ( to your liking), adobo seasoning, scot bonnet pepper, tomato sauce and finally the sliced bell pepper. Add 1/4 cup of water then let it cook for 2-3mns. Add your drained, spaghetti to the sauce , mix it with the sauce and let it simmer for 3-5 minutes, then serve. Bon Appétit!!!
